- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 23 attended a virtual summit on climate action at the invitation of UN Secretary-General António Guterres and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as leader of a country at the forefront of implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

The event was also attended by 16 heads of State and Government and chairs of regional organisations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the European Union, the African Union, the Alliance of Small Island States, and the Caribbean Community. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 23 hosted Susanna Campbell, Chair of Swedish textile recycling group SYRE, and Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam Johan Ndisi, calling on SYRE to invest in developing a green and sustainable textile industry in Vietnam.

Welcoming the SYRE delegation’s visit to explore investment opportunities in green production and the circular economy, PM Chinh encouraged the firm to leverage Vietnam’s abundant textile waste and surplus materials to manufacture sustainable products, while utilising clean energy and eco-friendly inputs in the production process. - Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and his spouse will pay an official visit to Vietnam from April 27 to 29, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

- Vietnam always values its time-tested friendship with Algeria - a relationship that generations of leaders and people from both countries have continuously nurtured since the days of the struggle for national independence up to the present, National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed on April 23.

Receiving Chairman of the Algeria-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group Salah Djegloul, Hai stressed that Vietnam appreciates Algeria’s role and standing in Africa and the world, and believes the country will continue gaining greater achievements in its nation building and development cause. - President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee Do Van Chien, on behalf of the the Presidium of the VFF Central Committee, has sent letters of condolences to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam and the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics following the passing of Pope Francis.

In the letters, Chien expressed his deep sorrow over the news of Pope Francis’ passing, describing it as a profound loss for the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Vietnam and the Vietnamese Catholic community in particular. Read full story

- A special exhibition opened on April 23 at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 –2025).

Speaking at the opening, Director of the Ho Chi Minh Museum Vu Manh Ha emphasised the historic significance of the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, which led to the complete liberation of southern Vietnam and national reunification. This victory marked the end of the three-decade resistance and opened a new era of independence, freedom, reunification, and national construction and defence. Read full story

National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong on March 7 led a working delegation to meet with the Election Committee of An Giang to inspect and supervise preparations for the election of deputies to the 16th legislature and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.

Bru–Van Kieu community in Quang Tri gear up for early voting

According to the provincial Election Committee, three polling stations in Truong Son commune – located in Hoi Ray, Nuoc Dang and Doc May villages – will organise voting on March 8, seven days before the nationwide election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 tenure, to make it easier for residents in remote areas where travel remains difficult to cast their ballots.

2026 inspection-supervision decision for NA Party Committee's Standing Board announced

The NA Party Committee is ready to cooperate closely, promptly provide relevant documents and materials, and work in accordance with the delegation’s requests. During the inspection and supervision process, its Standing Board hopes members of the inspection delegation will offer frank comments and clearly point out both its achievements and shortcomings.

PM proposes “Talented, creative and dedicated women” award

This year’s award went to a group of female scientists from Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their research cluster on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. The individual award was presented to Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga, Director of the Vietnam–Japan Institute of Advanced Technology and senior lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, for research linked to environmental protection, energy security and climate change adaptation.

Vietnam co-chairs 5th ASEAN–UK joint cooperation committee meeting

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Head of Vietnam’s Mission to ASEAN, affirmed that Vietnam will work closely with ASEAN member states to achieve the objectives set for the fifth anniversary year. These include developing a substantive new ASEAN–UK Plan of Action for 2027–2031 and finalising the ASEAN–UK Joint Declaration on cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific.

PM receives EU Ambassadors, Chargé d'affaires in Vietnam

PM Chinh affirmed that the EU and its member states are top priority partners in Vietnam's foreign policy, and the establishment of a new framework reflects the increasingly high level of political trust and creates momentum for expanding cooperation in all fields.
