- Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam on August 11 suggested the Republic of Korea (RoK) to step up support for Vietnamese companies in accessing the East Asian country’s e-commerce platforms, facilitate trade, and open markets for each other’s goods.

- Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) have issued a joint statement on further deepening the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the August 10-13 state visit by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam and his spouse.

According to the joint statement, General Secretary To Lam and President Lee Jae Myung appreciated the remarkable development of bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1992, especially after the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2022. Read full story

- The great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos are of importance to the cause of national construction and defence in each country, forming an enduring principle of their survival and development, said State President Luong Cuong.

He made the statement while hosting a reception on August 11 for Lieutenant General Vongsone Inpanphim, Deputy Minister of National Defence and Director of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People’s Army, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from August 10 to 14. Read full story

- Vietnam and Indonesia are targeting two-way trade of 18 billion USD by 2028, zeroing in on food industry ties and food security, heard the Indonesia-Vietnam food security cooperation forum hosted by the Indonesian Consulate General and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Ho Chi Minh City branch (VCCI-HCM) on August 11.

Adiguna Wijaya, acting Indonesian Consul General in HCM City, noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the friendly cooperative ties between Vietnam and Indonesia have continued to flourish. Today, the two nations now anchor ASEAN’s economy, representing 55% of the bloc’s population and 45% of GDP. Trade skyrocketed to 16.7 billion USD in 2024, and it was already at 9.95 billion USD just halfway through 2025. In March 2025, high-ranking leaders agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, while broadening ties into food security and the development of sustainable agricultural supply chains. - Trade and tourism activities continued to show positive growth in July, with total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue estimated at 576.4 trillion VND (21.98 billion USD), up 1.1% month-on-month and 9.2% year-on-year, according to the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance.

Specifically, revenue from food and foodstuffs increased by 9.9% year-on-year, garments by 7.9%, household appliances, tools, and equipment by 7.1%, accommodation and catering services by 16.3%, and travel services by 12.6%./. Read full story

Two military officers promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General
