- Party General Secretary To Lam has urged the Party Organisation of Ho Chi Minh City to translate the Party and State’s policies and guidelines into concrete results, create breakthrough institutions, and renew the growth model to develop a special urban area.

Addressing the first congress of the municipal Party Organisation on October 14 morning, the Party chief praised the city's remarkable progress over the past four decades of Doi Moi (renewal), especially during the five years implementing the resolution adopted at the 13th National Party Congress. The city’s achievements, he said, stemmed from the Party’s steadfast leadership, the effective coordination of ministries and localities, and above all, the intrinsict strength of the local Party Organisation and people. - The United Nations General Assembly on October 14 (New York time) elected members of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026–2028 term, in which Vietnam was re-elected with 180 votes in favour, the highest in the Asia-Pacific group.

The UN General Assembly's meeting, with the participation of 190 eligible voting member states of the UN, elected 14 members of the UNHRC for the 2026–2028 term, including Vietnam, India, Pakistan, Iraq, Egypt, South Africa, Mauritius, Angola, Estonia, Slovenia, Chile, Ecuador, Italy and the UK. Vietnam achieved the highest number of votes in the Asia-Pacific group, and is the only Asia-Pacific country that is a member of the UNHRC for the 2023-2025 term to be re-elected for the 2026-2028 term. - Vietnam’s re-election to the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2026-2028 term, with 180 votes, the highest among Asia-Pacific candidates competing for seats in this body, affirms the country’s rising international position and reputation, said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang.

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency, she underscored that the result reflects international recognition of the country's socio-economic achievements over the recent past as well as its commitment to promoting and protecting human rights while ensuring social welfare and improving living standards for its citizens. This high level of trust also reaffirms the consistent foreign policy of the Party and State, and the outcomes of the multilateral diplomacy in recent years. Read full story

- Outstanding farmers and agricultural scientists of 2025 were honoured at a ceremony held in Hanoi on October 14, in celebration of the 95th founding anniversary of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union (October 14, 1930–2025).

At the event, the Vietnam Farmers’ Union Central Committee presented the “Excellent Vietnamese Farmer” title to 63 individuals and “Scientist of Farmers” to 32 others. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 14 attended a ground-breaking ceremony for the building of a primary and secondary boarding school in the mountainous border commune of Bat Mot, the central province of Thanh Hoa.

The facility is one of six border schools in Thanh Hoa to begin construction this year under the Politburo’s policy on building 248 boarding schools in border communes across the country. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 14 inspected the settlement of administrative procedures at the public administrative service centre and reviewed the operation of the two-tier local administration model in the border commune of Bat Mot in the north central province of Thanh Hoa.

Following the administrative boundary adjustment, Thanh Hoa now has 166 communes and wards, including 16 land border communes. The province has standardised 2,272 administrative procedures, all of which have been fully integrated into the National Public Service Portal. Among these, 965 are fully online public services and 1,266 are partially online. Read full story

- Australia is providing up to 3 million AUD in humanitarian assistance to Vietnam following Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo, as these consecutive typhoons have led to widespread destruction and flooding across northern and central Vietnam.

A joint media release issued by Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister for International Development Anne Aly noted that: "Our thoughts are with the people of Vietnam during this difficult time. Australia’s support will include emergency relief supplies such as kitchen kits, hygiene kits and shelter tool kits. Australia will also mobilise the Australian Humanitarian Partnership to enable Australian non-government organisations to deliver lifesaving assistance.
