- The armed forces of Military Region 4 have remained a trusted political pillar and loyal combat unit of the Party, the State, and the people, ready to take on and excel in any assigned mission, Party General Secretary To Lam said on October 12.

The Party chief, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, made the remark at a ceremony in the central province of Nghe An marking the 80th traditional day of Military Region 4’s armed forces (October 15, 1945 – 2025). Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested measures to accelerate social housing projects, broaden beneficiary eligibility and forms of rental and rent-to-own housing, promptly submit a decree on national housing fund, and propose a real estate trading centre model.

PM Chinh made the request while chairing the second meeting of the Central Steering Committee for Housing Policy and Real Estate Market in Hanoi on October 11, which reviewed the Party and State’s policies on managing and developing the real estate market, with a focus on social housing. - Vietnam has achieved remarkable socio-economic progress over the past tenure, driven by the concerted efforts of ministries and localities to seize opportunities and overcome challenges under the Party and Government’s leadership, Politburo member and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh said.

Addressing a group discussion within the preparatory session of the first Congress of the Government’s Party Organization on October 12, Binh, who is also Standing Deputy Secretary of the Government Party Committee, said these achievements came despite unprecedented pandemic, extreme natural disasters, and a volatile global and regional landscape. - Vietravel Airlines has successfully operated the first charter flight between Hanoi and Huangshan of China, marking an important step in the carrier’s plan to expand its international flight network to large Asian markets.

Flight VU1236, with more than 180 passengers on board, took off at Noi Bai International Airport at 4:50pm on October 10 and landed at Huangshan Tunxi International Airport of Huangshan city, Anhui province, at 8:45pm (local time). Read full story

- Heavy rains and flooding triggered by Storm Matmo, the 11th to hit the East Sea this year, had damaged 1,577 houses and inundated 10,267 others as of 5pm on October 11, causing total losses of about 7.05 trillion VND (over 267 million USD), reported the Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment.

Thai Nguyen province is the hardest-hit locality with losses valued at 4 trillion VND, followed by Cao Bang with 2 trillion VND and Lang Son with 1.05 trillion VND, the authority said.

Post-storm floods left 18 people dead or missing and injured 15 others. Around 34,388 ha of rice and other crops were submerged while 13,054 head of livestock and 701,389 poultry were reported dead or swept away. Read full story

- As of 5 p.m. on October 11, individuals, agencies, and organisations had pledged a total of 907.45 billion VND (34.45 million USD) through the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) to support victims of natural disasters.

On October 3, the first tranche of 265 billion VND from the central relief fund was allocated to 17 localities to help them recover from the impact of Storm No. 10. Read full story./.

NA Chairman attends rehearsal for fourth Dien Hong awards

More than 10 months after the competition’s launch, the organising board received 3,508 entries from 125 media outlets nationwide. After initial screening, 659 works proceeded to preliminary judging, from which a preliminary jury selected 91 entries for the final round. The final jury ultimately selected 64 works for awards.

PM directs tasks to boost economic growth

To fully realise the 2025 socio-economic development plan, while creating momentum for 2026, PM Pham Minh Chinh urged ministers, heads of ministry-level agencies, and chairpersons of People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strictly follow resolutions of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government, along with the Prime Minister’s directives.

State President outlines key directions for strengthening national defence
