Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Nuclear energy development must be defined as a long-term strategic goal with vital importance in socio-economic development and ensuring national defence and security, Party General Secretary To Lam said at a working session with the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) under the Ministry of Science and Technology in Hanoi on September 4.

Nuclear energy must ensure absolute safety for people, the environment, and society, while strictly complying with guidelines set by international atomic energy agencies, the General Secretary told the session, which also saw the attendance of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on September 4 urged the defence ministries of Vietnam and Azerbaijan to further deepen cooperation in line with relevant documents signed by the two countries.

- The sixth Vietnam - Japan high-level agricultural cooperation dialogue convened in Tokyo on September 4, with Acting Vietnamese Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang and Japanese Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Koizumi Shinjiro charting a course for enhanced collaboration in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

The two officials approved the third phase of the Vietnam-Japan medium-to-long-term vision for agricultural cooperation. Read full story

- The Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have agreed to deepen cooperation in promoting inclusive governance and sustainable development in Vietnam.

The consensus was reached a working session in Hanoi on September 4 between Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, President of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, and Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, and Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator, and Director of the UNDP Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific. - The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee will convene its 49th session over 5.5 working days, split into three phases, the NA Office announced.

The first phase is set for September 5, followed by a half-day session on September 12 morning. The final stretch runs from September 22-23 and September 25 afternoon to September 27 morning, with the September 27 afternoon reserved as a backup. Read full story

- Vietnam exported nearly 1.1 million tonnes of coffee valued at over 6 billion USD in the first seven months of this year, up 8% in volume and 66% in value year on year, exceeding 2024’s total of 5.5 billion USD.

Europe remains the largest market, but demand is growing strongly in Asia, particularly in Cambodia. Read full story

- A recent biodiversity survey carried out through camera trapping and digital photography has discovered nine additional bird species, including two rare ones in the Dakrong Nature Reserve, according to the Nam Quang Tri Special-Use Forest Management Board.

The newly recorded species include the Bach thanh duoi dai (Lanius schach), Canh cach nui (Ixos mcclellandii), Chao mao tai trang (Pycnonotus taivanus), Chich choe than (Oriental Magpie-Robin), Chim xanh lon (Chloropsis cochinchinensis), Du di phuong Dong (Ketupa zeylonensis orientalis), Hoa mi dat may trang (White-browed Scimitar Babbler), Nhan rung tran trang (Artamus superciliosus), and Yeng (Gracula religiosa). These species hold high conservation value and play an important role in maintaining ecological balance in the forests. Notably, Ketupa zeylonensis orientalis and Gracula religiosa are classified as rare species./. Read full story

Two military officers promoted to rank of Senior Lieutenant General
