Geneva (VNA) - Swiss online magazine La Tribune des Nations has spotlighted the meeting between Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his spouse, and Jacques Savary and his wife whose medical mission transformed health care in the Southeast Asian country’s Mekong Delta over 20 years ago.

The magazine, specialising in international and diplomatic affairs, on July 29 published journalist Alain Jourdan's article on the meeting in Vevey as part of the Vietnamese leader’s working trip to Switzerland.

The story traced back the time when the Savary couple, serving as members of Vietnam Medical Aids (VMA), traveled to the Mekong Delta to support the local healthcare sector, particularly hospitals in Can Tho city and Vi Thanh city of former Hau Giang province. Their efforts, alongside VMA’s medical professionals, helped improve the medical staff’s expertise and hospitals’ access to modern equipment, significantly enhancing healthcare services for local communities.

Although the couple returned to their homeland in 2002 due to health issues, they have maintained their deep affection for Vietnam, while VMA has pursued numerous medical development initiatives in the region.

In his article, Jourdan described the meeting as a heartfelt reunion of long-time friends, and an expression of gratitude from the Vietnamese top legislator to Swiss friends who have contributed to the bilateral cooperation and Vietnam’s development. It is also an emotional moment for Jacques Savary, who has never forgotten the warm memories and hospitality of the Vietnamese people./.
