Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam concluded with success after five days of serious, democratic and highly responsible deliberations, adopting major orientations, key tasks and strategic breakthroughs for sustainable national development in the new period.

Held under the motto of “Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Breakthrough – Development,” the congress marked a new milestone in the Party’s history and the nation’s revolutionary cause, setting the direction for a new development era characterised by stronger momentum, higher-quality growth and heightened national aspiration.

Lively, democratic discussions

Under the orientations adopted, national development in the coming period will be grounded in strategic autonomy, innovation-driven growth, strong application of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, along with continued institutional reform to enhance governance effectiveness and implementation capacity. These were identified as strategic, foundational choices shaping the country’s medium- and long-term future.

In his closing remarks, Party General Secretary To Lam stressed that the overarching spirit of the 14th Party Congress term centres on strategic autonomy, seizing opportunities, unity and determination to overcome challenges, and fostering national development aspirations. He underscored the importance of translating will into action and decisions into concrete, effective and result-oriented outcomes.

Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat Tran Cam Tu said delegates held extensive discussions at group and plenary sessions on the documents submitted by the 13th Party Central Committee. A total of 815 opinions were recorded, reflecting a vibrant, democratic, candid and highly responsible atmosphere, with the vast majority expressing strong consensus and assessing the documents as systematic, scientific and innovative.

He noted that the draft documents underwent multiple rounds of revision and were widely consulted across the Party, socio-political organisations, the public, intellectuals, scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, armed forces personnel and overseas Vietnamese, with results publicly released via the mass media.

The assessments, he said, effectively combined theory with practice, continuity with innovation, and stability with development, reflecting collective intelligence and a renewed development mindset grounded in scientific and practical foundations, with a strong action-oriented approach linking responsibility with results, breakthroughs with sustainability, and discipline with public satisfaction.

Regarding the Political Report and the report reviewing theoretical and practical issues of socialist-oriented renewal over the past 40 years, most delegates expressed strong agreement with the draft texts.

He acknowledged that the previous term involved handling many new, complex and high-demand issues of strategic significance in limited preparation time, and called for continued efforts by the 14th-term leadership to refine regulations, strengthen accountability and improve preparation quality, particularly at the leadership level.

Adopting key tasks, strategic breakthroughs

The congress highlighted the need to renew leadership methods and enhance implementation capacity to ensure Party guidelines are swiftly translated into practice.

Reviewing the process, the Party chief affirmed that the documents adopted truly represent the crystallisation of collective wisdom, innovative thinking, development aspirations and strong determination of the entire Party, people and armed forces in building, developing and safeguarding the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland. He noted that the documents feature numerous new and breakthrough elements, reflecting democratic principles and responsiveness to public aspirations.

The congress discussed and adopted major policies, overarching orientations, key tasks and strategic breakthroughs to promote fast and sustainable development and firmly safeguard national sovereignty. It reaffirmed that socio-economic development and environmental protection remain central. Party building is the key, while cultural and human development form the foundation, and national defence, security, foreign affairs and international integration are essential and ongoing tasks. Breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation were identified as core development drivers.

The congress unanimously adopted the documents submitted by the 13th Party Central Committee and elected the 14th Party Central Committee, comprising 180 full members and 20 alternate members, representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide. The new leadership was described as meeting high standards of integrity, capability and credibility for the new term – the opening phase of the nation’s new development era.

With a long-term vision, the congress also tasked the 14th Party Central Committee with reviewing 40 years of implementing the Platform on National Construction during the Transitional Period to Socialism, assessing 100 years of the Party’s leadership of the Vietnamese revolution (1930–2030), and formulating orientations for national development over the next century. Affirming the significance of the outcomes, the Party leader said the congress’s success reflects renewed confidence, determination and a forward-looking vision. He expressed confidence that, with unity in will and action across the Party, the strength of the people and the great national solidarity bloc, Vietnam will successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, building a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilised and happy nation, steadily advancing towards socialism.

The congress called on the entire Party, people, armed forces and overseas Vietnamese to promote patriotism, civic responsibility and development aspirations, urging concrete actions to contribute to national development, improved livelihoods and a stronger Vietnam that can stand shoulder to shoulder with nations around the world./.
