Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Party General Secretary To Lam delivered a keynote speech at the opening of the 13th Party Central Committee's 11th plenum in Hanoi on April 10, outlining sweeping reforms and targets designed to propel the nation forward.

The Party chief stressed that over the past four months, following the Party Central Committee's conclusions, the Politburo and the Secretariat have led and directed the basically completed re-organisation and streamlining of the organisational apparatus of the agencies of the Party, Government, National Assembly, and Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) at the central level. He cited reduced administrative layers, enhanced efficiency, and cost savings as evidence of this “revolutionary” process. Read full story

- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had phone talks with his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon on April 10 morning to discuss the bilateral relationship as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern.

In the phone talks, made at the request of the New Zealand side, PM Chinh once again expressed his joy and appreciation for the results achieved during PM Luxon's official visit to Vietnam in February 2025, especially the two sides issuing a Joint Statement upgrading the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on April 10 signed for issuance of an official dispatch outlining a plan to accelerate tourism development, aiming to drive double-digit economic growth.

The official dispatch builds on the Politburo’s directive to make tourism a spearhead economic sector, with the PM’s directions already delivering notable success. Tourism has become a bright spot in Vietnam’s post-COVID-19 recovery, it said. Read full story

- Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s working visit to Ho Chi Minh City is expected to create valuable opportunities for effective cooperation between the city and Spain through concrete projects in potential areas, a municipal official has said.

Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc made the statement while receiving Prime Minister Sánchez at the Reunification Hall on April 10. Read full story

- The Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of Finance decided to reduce retail prices of petrol products from 3 pm on April 10.

Accordingly, the price of E5RON92 was capped at 18,882 VND per litre (down 1,491 VND), while that of RON95-III was 19,207 VND (down 1,712 VND) per litre. Read full story

- The Binh Dinh Economic Zone Authority has granted an investment certificate to Denmark-based MASCOT INTERNATIONAL A/S for a high-quality garment manufacturing project worth more than 1.29 trillion VND (approximately 52 million USD) in the central province of Binh Dinh.

The project will be located in the Becamex Binh Dinh Industrial Park, part of the Nhon Hoi Economic Zone in Van Canh district, spanning nearly 100,000 sq.m. It includes a garment production and processing facility, a warehousing complex, and a quality control centre for raw materials and accessories. Read full story

- Amidst global economic and political turbulence, Vietnam’s economy showed impressive resilience in the first quarter, growing by 6.93%, with a key highlight being foreign direct investment (FDI) attraction and disbursement.

However, in order to draw more FDI, experts underlined the need for comprehensive measures, including stronger reforms in all fields. Read full story

- Delegations from the Ministry of Finance and State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) actively joined discussions at the 12th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ and Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (AFMGM) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on April 9.

Leading the Vietnamese delegations, Minister of Finance Nguyen Van Thang and SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh, participated in key dialogues between ASEAN ministers and major business councils, including the US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC), the EU-ASEAN Business Council, and the ASEAN Business Advisory Council. These discussions focused on pressing economic issues, particularly concerns over the US's new tariff policies. ASEAN ministers received strong backing from the US-ABC, while conveying regional concerns to the US regarding the potential negative impact of its tariffs on Southeast Asian businesses. - Vietnam’s new-age carrier Vietjet Air and AV AirFinance have signed a financial agreement worth 300 million USD, bringing the total trade ties between the airline and the US to 64 billion USD.

The signing was witnessed by Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc and other senior government officials, as part of their working visit to promote US–Vietnam economic and trade relations. Read full story

- Vietnam’s wushu team have finished second at the 10th Sanda World Cup in China, which attracted hundreds of participants from around the world.

The team brought home four gold medals and two silvers, securing the second spot in the medal table which was led by China. Read full story

- The Vietnam International Travel Mart (VITM Hanoi 2025) officially opened in Hanoi on April 10 under the theme “Developing Green Destinations - Elevating Vietnamese Tourism”.

PM urges Warburg Pincus to boost fair, sustainable Vietnam-US trade

As Vietnam is a developing country with a transitioning economy, and is still dealing with the severe consequences of war, it hopes to continue receiving support and cooperation from the US, and strengthening and deepening the Vietrnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including maintaining and promoting stable, sustainable economic and trade relations based on equality and mutual benefit, while enhancing cooperation with US investors in the country.

Vietnam’s post-war achievements mark a new April 30 victory: Bolivian politician
