Fire destroys over 500 homes in central Jakarta

As many as 543 houses were destroyed in a blaze in Kemayoran sub-district of Central Jakarta early January 21.

Jakarta (VNA) – As many as 543 houses were destroyed in a blaze in Kemayoran sub-district of Central Jakarta early January 21.

According to Jakarta Police Chief Susatyo Purnomo Condro, authorities deployed 34 fire engines with approximately 170 firefighters to extinguish the fire. The operation lasted until 6:00 am, with no casualties reported. More than 1,700 people were displaced.

The fire, suspected to be caused by an electrical short circuit, broke out at 0:30 am from a house.

The exact cause is still under investigation./.
