Hanoi (VNA) - Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin on January 7 confirmed the detection of cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in the country, but assured the public that the disease is not dangerous.
In a written announcement published on the ministry's official website, the official noted that the ministry’s report shows that several children have been infected, and the situation is being closely monitored.
This is not a new disease, it has been present in Indonesia since 2001, and the country has yet to observe any serious impacts caused by the virus, Sadikin added.
He noted that the symptoms are similar to those of a common flu, and urged the public to maintain a healthy and hygienic environment./.
