Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia has recently unveiled a plan to develop 50 priority cities, as part of President Prabowo Subianto’s ambition to achieve 8% economic growth.
Indonesian Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said 50 cities are designed to balance growth between Java and regions beyond.
He also introduced his ministry’s PU608 vision to improve investment effectiveness, alleviate poverty toward zero percent poverty, and boost economic growth to be at 8% by 2029.
The vision represents a new direction for the national infrastructure development that is more efficient and inclusive, and has a tangible impact on the community. Through this approach, development is not only carried out to pursue quantity but also quality and sustainability.
In the short term, infrastructure priorities for 2026 will focus on achieving self-sufficiency in food, water, and energy. To ensure financial sustainability, the ministry is also promoting public–private partnership (PPP) models to attract investment and deliver outcomes that are “green, tangible, and equitable” for the economy./.
