Jakarta (VNA) - A 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck off Indonesia's eastern Maluku province on March 3, the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics reported.
The tremor occurred at 01:42am local time, with the epicentre located 63km southeast of Maluku Tengah Regency at a depth of 10km, it said.
A senior official from the provincial disaster management agency confirmed that the earthquake did not cause serious damage to people or property. Authorities also did not issue a tsunami warning.
Indonesia, an archipelagic nation home to 127 active volcanoes, frequently experiences earthquakes due to its location within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone prone to tectonic activity./.
