Lao Cai sets sights on northern growth pole

The first congress of the Party Organisation of Lao Cai province for the 2025–2030 tenure wrapped up on September 30, agreeing on five key tasks, three breakthrough steps, and ten specific measures to transform the province into a growth pole and a development hub in the north.

Lao Cai (VNA) - The first congress of the Party Organisation of Lao Cai province for the 2025–2030 tenure wrapped up on September 30, agreeing on five key tasks, three breakthrough steps, and ten specific measures to transform the province into a growth pole and a development hub in the north.

With 440 delegates representing over 119,000 party members of the locality, the congress adopted its resolution, and an action programme implementing the resolution and 17 key projects of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Organisation for the 2025-2030 tenure.

Accordingly, in the next five years, the province will pay heed to building a clean and strong Party and political system; fully tapping the province’s potential, advantages, new growth motivations; and create breakthroughs to develop Lao Cai into a centre for economic and trade linking between Vietnam, other ASEAN nations and southwest China, guided by the principles of “green, harmonious, distinctive, and happy,” and aligned with the goals of safeguarding borders, people, forests, water, and the environment.

It aims for average GRDP growth of at least 10% annually in 2026–2030, with per capita GRDP of 136 million VND (about 5,147 USD). The province targets state budget revenue of over 32 trillion VND; more than 15 million tourist arrivals with total revenue of 70 trillion VND. The poverty rate is set to fall by 2.5 – 3 percentage points each year.

Attention will be given to improving the quality of healthcare, education, human resources, and job, while strengthening national defence and security, firmly protecting the national borderlines, and promoting external relations and deeper international integration.

The congress called on Party committees, authorities, officials, Party members, armed forces, and people of the locality to uphold the tradition of solidarity, seize opportunities, overcome challenges, renew their mindset, and foster the will and aspiration for development to fulfil the goals and tasks set for the tenure./.

Hanoi, Vientiane promote comprehensive cooperation in new phase
