Laos, Thailand agree to promote bilateral cooperation mechanisms

The two leaders also discussed cooperation in various areas such as politics, security, border demarcation, maintenance of peace and order along the borderline, labour, combating online scams, addressing transboundary haze pollution, economy and trade, infrastructure development, energy, tourism, and development cooperation.

Vientiane (VNA) - Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and his Thai counterpart Anutin Charnvirakul on October 16 agreed to continue working closely together to promote bilateral cooperation mechanisms at both central and local levels, helping to strengthen the friendship, fostering socio-economic development, and improving the livelihoods of the people of both countries.

At their talks in Vientiane, the two PMs reaffirmed their commitment to further promoting the strategic partnership for growth, including organising activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The two leaders also discussed cooperation in various areas such as politics, security, border demarcation, maintenance of peace and order along the borderline, labour, combating online scams, addressing transboundary haze pollution, economy and trade, infrastructure development, energy, tourism, and development cooperation.

On this occasion, the Thai Government provided support for four projects in Laos, including a project to strengthen and enhance cooperation with neighbouring countries in combating drugs and dismantling cross-border drug trafficking rings, worth 10.15 million THB (312,000 USD); funding for teaching materials for Savannakhet Technical and Vocational College under the Lao Vocational Skills Development Project, worth nearly 1.5 million THB; provision of snake venom antiserum for Phonhong district’s hospital in Vientiane province, worth 875,000 THB; and technical assistance for a water supply system development project in Laos, worth 30 million THB./.
