Malaysia deploys 10,000 personnel to ensure security for 47th ASEAN Summit

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian police are fully prepared to carry out security duties for the 47th ASEAN Summit (ASEAN-47) and related meetings, scheduled to take place in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur from October 26-28.

Speaking to the press on October 18, Datuk Fisol Salleh, Deputy Director of the Internal Security and Public Order Department of the Royal Malaysia Police, said that they have categorised the delegates into high-risk and normal-risk groups, with different security approaches to be implemented.

Over 10,000 personnel involved in this assignment have reported for duty and will begin their duties at their respective locations within the next day or two, he said.

Fisol said that international leaders and delegations scheduled to attend the summit will be placed at 24 hotels around the capital.

He added that to ensure smooth security operations, police will be deploying new assets, including security vehicles obtained from the General Operations Force (GOF), to escort delegations requiring a high protection level.

Meanwhile, Fisol advised the public, especially motorists, to fully cooperate with the police throughout the security control operation period./.
