- The 15th National Assembly (NA) on June 19 adopted a resolution approvingState budget settlement in 2021, during its ongoing fifth plenary session. Inthe resolution, the total state budget revenue was nearly 2.388 quadrillion VND(101 billion USD), while the total state budget spending was more than 2.484quadrillion VND, resulting in an overspending of 214 trillion VND, equal to2.52% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). - President Vo Van Thuong has expressed his belief that the ongoing visit toVietnam by Chief Justice of Russia Lebedev Vyacheslav Mikhailovich will furtherdeepen Vietnam-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership.

During his reception in Hanoi on June 19 for Mikhailovich, President Thuongthanked the guest for conveying Russian President Vladimir Putin’s letter tohim. He said he concurs with the points raised by Putin in the letter,particularly in regards to further enhancing the long-standing traditionalfriendship between the two countries across all areas, especially amidcomplicated developments in the region and the world at present. - Vietnam’s consumer price index (CPI) inflation continued to trend down forthe fourth month, declining from  2.8% in April to 2.4% in May, accordingto the Vietnam Macro Monitoring report released by the World Bank on June 19. Read full story

- The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) has delivered cuts to its policy rate threetimes in less than three months, each time of 50 basis points, to assist thecountry’s economic growth via the credit channel.

According to a release by HSBC Vietnam, after becoming the first Asian centralbank to cut its policy rate in early April, the SBV cut again in late Maybefore making another announcement on 16 June. Effective from June 19, theSBV’s refinancing rate is at 4.5%. Read full story

- Following the Government's directions, the Ministry of Industry and Trade(MoIT) built and submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister for considerationand approval of a mechanism to encourage the development of rooftop solarpower, which is applicable to those installed in residential, commercial andcorporate buildings for self-consumption without selling electricity to otherorganisations or individuals. - The search volume for Vietnam's tourism via Google's market trend trackingtool grew 10%-25%  between mid-March andearly June, ranking 7th in the world and indicating a strong demand recovery. Read full story

NA Standing Committee proposes priority for domestic bidding

Presenting the draft revised Bidding Law, Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan said the draft, comprising eight chapters and 60 articles, aims to simplify procedures, shorten project implementation time, strengthen decentralisation and delegation of authority, improve the effectiveness of State management, and handle violations and resolve petitions in bidding activities.

Looking ahead, Vietnam wishes to work with Switzerland to further deepen bilateral relations, with traditional friendship and political trust as the foundation, economic cooperation as a pillar, and science-technology and innovation as drivers, National Assembly Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh said, adding that the two sides should also expand cooperation in areas where Switzerland has strengths and Vietnam has needs.
