Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his Japanese counterpart Ishiba Shigeru attended the Vietnam-Japan Forum on cooperation in strategic industries, high technology, green transition, and semiconductors in Hanoi on April 28.

The event was attended by leaders of ministries, agencies, and Government bodies from both countries, along with more than 300 delegates representing Vietnamese and Japanese businesses and universities. Read full story

– National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru met in Hanoi on April 28, expressing their delight at the substantive development of the two countries' relations nearly two years since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

The top legislator of Vietnam praised the outcomes of PM Ishiba’s meetings with Party General Secretary To Lam and President Luong Cuong, as well as his talks with PM Pham Minh Chinh. He noted that the Japanese PM's official visit, from April 27 to 29, has opened up new opportunities for the two sides to bolster cooperation in all fields, particularly in economy, trade, science – technology, digital transformation, high-quality human resources training, among others. – PM Pham Minh Chinh held phone talks with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim at the Malaysian side’s request on April 28, discussing bilateral cooperation as well as several regional and international developments.

During their call, PM Anwar Ibrahim provided updates on Malaysia's initiatives as the ASEAN Chair this year to address regional concerns previously discussed in their April 6 conversation. He said Malaysia has engaged in dialogue with stakeholders in Myanmar, working to extend ceasefire agreements to focus on humanitarian aid following recent disasters. – PM Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 28 for Minister of Veterans Affairs Pei Jinjia, who is leading a Chinese Government delegation to attend Vietnam's commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975–2025).

At the event, PM Chinh expressed his appreciation for the Chinese Party and Government sending Minister Pei to attend and the Chinese People's Liberation Army personnel to join Vietnam’s grand parade at the celebration, describing the move as a vivid demonstration of China's support for the important political event of Vietnam and of the high level of the Vietnam – China friendship. PM Chinh praised the signing of the agreement to promote bilateral trade between the Governments of Vietnam and Cambodia for the 2025–2026 period, noting that it will provide legal grounds for trade by offering tariff incentives, leveraging the complementarity of the two economies, and strengthening supply chain connectivity so as to reach the trade target of 20 billion USD. – Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan has underscored the enduring relations between Vietnam and Cuba, affirming that Vietnam always considers the Caribbean country a top important and trusted partner regardless of circumstances.

At a reception in Ho Chi Minh City on April 28 for Politburo member and Vice President of Cuba Salvador Valdes Mesa, who is on a Vietnam visit to attend the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975–2025), Vice President Xuan stressed that the Vietnamese people always treasure the sincere solidarity and invaluable support that the Cuban Party, State, and people have provided for Vietnam throughout nearly seven decades. – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son held talks with Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo in Hanoi on April 28, as part of the latter’s official trip to Vietnam and attendance of the celebration of for the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification from April 27-30.

Son welcomed the minister’s visit, which coincided with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties. He affirmed Vietnam's policy of considering Tanzania a priority partner in Africa, suggested that the two countries facilitate the exchange of all-level delegations, particularly those at high level through Party, State, and National Assembly channels, as well as people-to-people exchanges. – Wharf No. 3 of Lao - Viet International Port was put into operation in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, Ky Anh township, central Ha Tinh province, on April 28 in the presence of President of Vietnam Luong Cuong and Party General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

The Wharf No. 3 project features a 225-meter-long pier capable of accommodating cargo vessels of up to 45,000 DWT. With a throughput capacity of up to 2.15 million tonnes per year, the wharf covers 43,928 square metres of land and 42,000 square metres of water surface. Read full story./.

Vietnamese Party leader receives Thai Prime Minister

The upgrade of Vietnam - Thailand ties to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a historic milestone heralding a new chapter of the two countries’ relations and meeting their development demand in the new period, said Party General Secretary To Lam.

Vietnam, Senegal enhance cooperation across key sectors

In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam’s exports to Senegal stood at 43.43 million USD, nearly equalling the total for 2024 (43.91 million USD). Vietnam mainly exports rice, pepper, agricultural products, and components, while its imports from Senegal include raw cashew nuts, fishmeal, seafood, and cotton.

Potential to promote Vietnam – Nepal trade

The Vietnam-Nepal relationship is primarily centred on religion, education, people-to-people exchange, business, trade, and investment, Upadhyay said, noting people-to-people diplomacy forms the foundation of this relationship.

Prime Minister hosts welcome ceremony for Thai counterpart

This is the first visit to Vietnam by PM Paetongtarn since she took office, and also the first by a Thai Government leader in 11 years. Additionally, it marks the first joint cabinet meeting between the two countries’ prime ministers in 10 years.
