Jakarta (VNA) – Indonesia is stepping up policies to build a highly competitive female entrepreneurial workforce, viewing it as a key pillar for promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth amid digital transformation and global changes.
The country is focusing on enhancing the capacity of women in the micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) sector, which accounts for a large proportion of the economy. Women now play an increasingly vital role in this ecosystem, particularly in online business and the digital economy.
The Indonesian government is rolling out initiatives to strengthen business skills, improve access to finance, and boost digital transformation capabilities for female entrepreneurs. Leveraging e-commerce platforms is seen as an effective tool to help women expand markets, improve operational efficiency, and integrate more deeply into global value chains.
However, female entrepreneurs still face multiple barriers, including limited financial skills, restricted access to capital, and social and cultural constraints.
Experts said unlocking the full potential of this group requires a comprehensive approach combining supportive policies, skills training, and an improved business environment.
Indonesia also emphasises the importance of building a comprehensive support ecosystem by strengthening connections among entrepreneurs, mentors, and financial institutions to facilitate business development.
Analysts noted that promoting female entrepreneurship not only helps narrow the gender gap but also creates new growth drivers. Amid Indonesia’s rapidly expanding digital economy, female entrepreneurs – if properly supported – can significantly contribute to national productivity and competitiveness.
The government expects that through consistent and long-term policies, female entrepreneurs will further assert their role in the economy while contributing to sustainable development goals and international integration./.
