Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand’s newly appointed Minister of Commerce Suphajee Suthumpun has pledged urgent action on export challenges, the strong Thai Baht, and agricultural prices, vowing to deliver tangible results within four months.
Speaking to the press, Suphajee outlined her priorities as Minister, stressing that while detailed policies will be confirmed following the Prime Minister’s address to Parliament next week, the Ministry of Commerce will focus on balancing the interests of buyers and sellers both domestically and internationally.
She highlighted urgent tasks already set by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapas, who leads the government’s economic team.
On the Thai Baht’s strength, she admitted it posed difficulties for exporters and said the Ministry of Commerce will ensure policies are implemented effectively to support exporters.
Regarding low farm prices, she noted that the ministry already tracks seasonal supply and demand data, allowing for advanced preparations before harvests such as rice and coffee later this year.
Thailand’s new Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, is scheduled to present its policy statement before Parliament on September 29–30, with a focus on solutions in four priority areas: the economy, security, disaster management and social issues./.
