Tokyo (VNA) – Sixteen prominent textile and fashion enterprises from Ho Chi Minh City are participating in the Fashion World Tokyo (FaW Tokyo) 2025, Japan’s leading event for fashion, materials, and technology which opened on October 1, aiming to showcase their supply capabilities and explore market expansion opportunities.
A standout feature of their exhibited items was the use of unique local materials, including fabrics made from eco-friendly fibres such as PinaLina pineapple fibre, lotus fibre, and coffee fibre, underscoring Vietnam’s commitment to “from local materials to global fashion.”
Vietnamese exhibitors also highlighted the motto of “circular and sustainable breakthroughs,” showcasing high-value fashion products that integrate green technology, reflecting a global trend towards sustainability.
These companies are eager to strengthen Vietnam-Japan trade relations by expanding cooperation in sustainable fashion research, supply, and distribution. They also seek to assert Vietnam’s position on the global fashion map through indigenous materials and green technology.
Le Nguyen Trang Nha, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Textile and Apparel Association, told the Vietnam News Agency’s correspondent in Tokyo that Vietnamese enterprises are bringing locally sourced materials to the international stage, promoting ODM (original design manufacturing) solutions and modern, standardised, green, and digital production technologies tailored for global customers, especially the Japanese market. Another goal is to gradually introduce Vietnamese designers’ creativity to the world - a vision she emphasised as crucial for the country’s fashion industry.
Regarding cooperation potential with Japanese firms, Nha noted existing ties between association members and Japanese partners. Participation in FaW Tokyo 2025 will enhance understanding of Japanese customer demands, enabling Vietnamese garment and textile firms to develop sustainable products aligned with current consumer trends.
Ryosuke Ando, General director of F&B Company, expressed enthusiasm about combining Japanese technology with Vietnam’s rapid growth to create better products and fabrics. He was intrigued by fabrics made from pineapple leaf and coffee fibres and hopes these new materials will open opportunities for environmentally friendly textiles in Japan, where traditional materials like washi paper and paper-based fabrics are also popular.
Chisato Miyawaki, Executive Manager and International Sales and Marketing at RX Japan Ltd - the organiser of FaW Tokyo, highlighted Vietnam as a vital business partner for Japan’s garment sector. Miyawaki emphasised RX’s commitment to promoting Vietnamese companies and integrating them more deeply into Japan’s garment industry.
FaW Tokyo is Japan’s largest and most influential fashion trade exhibition, held biennially in Tokyo. It provides a platform for international brands, textile suppliers, designers, and innovators to engage directly with leading retailers, distributors, and OEM/ODM partners from Japan and across Asia.
Beyond Japan, FaW Tokyo is regarded as one of Asia’s top fashion trade fairs, featuring a wide array of products - from apparel and textiles to accessories and fashion technology.
With participation from eco-friendly designers and fabric producers, traditional craft brands, and tech-driven apparel startups, FaW Tokyo serves as an ideal launchpad for Vietnamese textile businesses aiming to enter the Japanese and wider Asian fashion markets./.
