Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– State President Luong Cuong held talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Gitanas Nauseda in Hanoi on June 12 morning, during which he affirmed Vietnam always values and wishes to strengthen cooperation with Lithuania – its important traditional partner in Europe.

Welcoming President Nauseda, his spouse, and the high-level delegation of Lithuania, President Cuong emphasised that this historic official visit, the first by a Lithuanian head of state since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, marks a significant milestone and opens up new opportunities for cooperation, especially in areas where both sides have strengths and needs. – General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on June 12 for Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda, who is on a two-day official visit to Vietnam.

– State President Luong Cuong on June 12 held phone talks with President of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Lee Jae-myung, who officially took office on June 4.

On behalf of the State and people of Vietnam, President Cuong congratulated Lee on his election as the 21st President of the RoK. He also conveyed congratulations from Party General Secretary To Lam and other Vietnamese leaders to the Korean President. Read full story

– The 15th National Assembly (NA) on June 12 passed a resolution on the reorganisation of provincial-level administrative units in 2025, under which Vietnam now has 34 provincial-level administrative units, including 28 provinces and six centrally-run cities.

At the legislature’s ongoing 9th session, 461 out of 465 deputies present at the sitting, equivalent to 96.44% of the total number of legislators, voted in favour of the Resolution. Read full story

– Artificial intelligence (AI) could add 120–130 billion USD to Vietnam’s economy by 2040, according to a report released by the National Innovation Centre (NIC) on June 12.

The report was compiled by the NIC under the Ministry of Finance in coordination with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Read full story

– Vietnam’s gold market is poised for significant reform as eligible banks and enterprises will soon be permitted to import raw gold and produce bullion — a move expected to invigorate the sector with increased competition and more brands.

Dao Xuan Tuan, Director of the Foreign Exchange Management Department at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), told the Lao dong (Labour) daily that the SBV is in the process of finalising a draft Government decree that amends Decree 24/2012/ND-CP, aimed at gradually liberalising the gold bullion market while ensuring stringent regulatory oversight. – As the World Day Against Child Labour is observed on June 12, Vietnam has affirmed its strong commitment to eliminating child labour in all forms, particularly the hazardous and exploitative labour that robs their right to a fulfilling childhood.

– As concerns mount over the potential for disruptions to global trade, a new study published in the journal Nature Food has identified Vietnam as one of the few countries with a high level of food self-sufficiency, capable of withstanding major interruptions to food imports and exports worldwide.

The research, conducted by scientists from the German University of Göttingen and the Scottish University of Edinburgh, used data from the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to assess the self-sufficiency of 186 countries and territories across seven major food categories: cereals, vegetables, fruit, starchy staples, dairy products, meat, and fish. – The coastal city of Nha Trang in Vietnam’s south-central province of Khanh Hoa, has emerged as the most sought-after summer destination for travellers from the Republic of Korea (RoK), according to digital travel platform Agoda.

An analysis of accommodation search data based on check-in dates for June and July revealed that Nha Trang surpassed all other destinations in popularity among Korean users. Read full story./.
