ASEAN unveils Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation in next five years

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) committed 10 billion USD towards the APG to expedite cross-border connections, national grid projects, and renewable energy initiatives that will facilitate power trade. Meanwhile, the World Bank also allocated 2.5 billion USD to support ASEAN green energy projects.

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The upcoming ASEAN Energy Business Forum (AEBF) 2025 will see the unveiling of ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030, the region's strategic blueprint for guiding energy policies.

AEBF Chairman Dr Andy Tirta said among other things, the document will outline regional energy cooperation plans for the next five years, highlighting the development of ASEAN Power Grid (APG) initiatives.

According to Andy, the upcoming AEBF 2025 will also see the signing of an enhanced memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the APG that will focus on standardising rules and regulations, aligning technical requirements and establishing a financial model.

It will also see in-depth discussions on the trans-ASEAN gas pipeline, along with other ongoing issues related to renewable energy, energy efficiency and conservation as well as nuclear energy potential, he added.

To advance discussions on energy transition among business leaders, Andy said the ASEAN Energy Leaders Talk will be held during the event, involving leaders of private institutions and energy-related businesses.

He said the parties will sit together and discuss current issues related to energy transition, and subsequently give their recommendations from the perspective of industry players for key policymakers' attention.

In May, it was reported that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) had committed 10 billion USD towards the APG to expedite cross-border connections, national grid projects, and renewable energy initiatives that will facilitate power trade. At the same time, the World Bank also allocated 2.5 billion USD to support ASEAN green energy projects.

The AEBF 2025, entering its 25th edition, is scheduled to be held on October 15-17 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), with the theme 'Powering ASEAN: Bridging Boundaries, Building Prosperity"./.
