Mexico City (VNA) - ASEAN Week is being held at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies from September 30 to October 5, to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen solidarity and friendship between ASEAN member countries and Mexico, and with its legislative body.

This event is part of diplomatic activities organised by the ASEAN Committee in Mexico (ACMC).

At the event, Vice President of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies Paulina Rubio Fernández praised the efforts of ASEAN countries in maintaining and enriching this annual event. She emphasised that the event not only fosters mutual understanding between the peoples of both sides but also reflects the strong bonds, trust, and shared responsibility for a just, multilateral, and sustainable international order.

Recognising ASEAN’s role on the global stage, Fernández noted that ASEAN is not merely a regional organisation but also plays a key role in promoting inter-regional cooperation worldwide, including with Latin America.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Mexico Nguyen Van Hai, ACMC Chair, highlighted that ASEAN and Mexico share many common values, such as respect for independence, cultural diversity, and support for multilateralism. These shared values provide a solid foundation to promote substantive cooperation under the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) as well as between ASEAN and the Pacific Alliance.
