Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence said preparations are underway for the upcoming Regional Border Committee (RBC)'s meeting between Cambodia’s Military Region 4 and Thailand’s Army Area 2.
Brig. Gen. Nith Narong, Deputy Chief of Staff and Head of the RBC Secretariat for Cambodia’s Military Region 4, confirmed that an invitation was sent to the Thai side October 8.
The letter invites the head of Thailand’s RBC Secretariat for Army Area 2 and 10 accompanying members to attend a preparatory meeting scheduled for October 10 in Samrong city, Oddar Meanchey province.
The preparatory meeting will finalise arrangements for the RBC talks, which Cambodia will host from October 15–17 in Oddar Meanchey. Officials said the discussions aim to be constructive and yield mutually beneficial outcomes.
The meeting follows a mandate from the General Border Committee and builds on agreements reached at the First Extraordinary RBC Meeting held August 27. Talks will focus on implementing the ceasefire agreement, strengthening cooperation to maintain peace and stability, and restoring normal relations between the two countries.
The same day, on his social media platforms, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his hope that the Joint Boundary Commission between Cambodia and Thailand will be convened soon to discuss border management issues.
Recent delay in JBC meeting, which was scheduled in September, has been due to the changing composition of JBC Thailand, said Hun Manet, expressing hope that the JBC meeting will be held in the very near future to discuss this matter./.
