Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has called for stronger international cooperation to combat online gambling as the country is estimated to lose around 8 billion USD every year due to capital outflows from online gambling activities.

Speaking at the second session of the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM) in Gyeongju, the Republic of Korea, on November 1, he emphasised the need for stronger international cooperation to combat cross-border crimes such as smuggling, corruption, drug trafficking, and online gambling, which undermine national economic stability.

Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening digital education and improving technological literacy for its people.

Indonesia also wants to empower small businesses and strengthen its health system amid demographic change, he said.

Ealier, at the 30th ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono also emphasised the need to strengthen inter-sectoral cooperation in ASEAN to address challenges of cybercrime and online fraud./.
