Hanoi (VNA) – An Indonesian passenger ferry carrying hundreds of people caught fire at sea off Sulawesi island on July 20, killing at least five people, according to local officials.
Meanwhile, more than 280 people have been rescued.
People were seen jumping into the waters from the KM Barcelona 5, which was heading to Manado, the capital of North Sulawesi province, from Talaud island district when it caught fire.
Local fishermen also helped evacuate the victims to nearby islands.
Further investigation into the fire is underway.

Magnitude 6.8 earthquake hits Indonesia
The epicentre was located to be about 177km west of Tual city in Maluku province. The USGS estimated the quake's depth at 66 km, while the BMKG reported a depth of 98km.
