Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Commission for the Elimination of Corruption (KPK) has announced an investigation against the alleged corruption in the Jakarta – Bandung high-speed train project, also known as Whoosh – one of the country's strategic infrastructure projects.
The case is currently in the preliminary investigation stage, with the probe starting at the beginning of this year, according to KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo.
He declined to disclose more details about the investigation, including its progress and potential suspects.
Responding to the KPK’s investigation, a representative from the Indonesia – China High-Speed Railways Limited (KCIC) said that the firm will respect the ongoing legal process, and cooperate with the KPK for the investigation.
The Whoosh project, spanning over 142 kilometres from Jakarta to Bandung, has been underway since 2023. It is a joint venture between Indonesia and China, with Indonesia's state-owned railway company (KAI) holding the largest share. In 2024, KAI reported a loss of 2.23 trillion IDR (134 million USD) from the project./.
