Indonesia unveils five programmes to create 3 million new jobs

The Indonesian Government has just unveiled a plan to roll out five priority programmes in 2025, aiming to generate more than 3 million new jobs while fostering sustainable economic growth and enhancing the competitiveness of its agro-fishery sectors.

Jakarta (VNA) – The Indonesian Government has just unveiled a plan to roll out five priority programmes in 2025, aiming to generate more than 3 million new jobs while fostering sustainable economic growth and enhancing the competitiveness of its agro-fishery sectors.

As reported by the country’s national news agency Antara, Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said the programmes cover village cooperatives, fishing villages, aquaculture pond revitalisation, smallholder plantation replanting, and fishing vessel modernisation.

The five initiatives are part of the Government’s "8+4+5" Economic Policy Package for 2025, consisting of eight programmes to be implemented this year, four programmes to continue in 2026, and five job-creation programmes.

Earlier, Indonesian Minister of Manpower Yassierli set a target of creating at least 1 million jobs in the forestry sector within the next three to four years, driven by the expansion of green jobs and the adoption of agroforestry practices.

Yassierli noted that agroforestry holds significant potential for job creation while simultaneously utilising forests as sources of food, energy, and water to support community welfare, aligning with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s Astacita vision./.
