Jakarta (VNA) - Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) on September 5 announced a six-point resolution in response to the “17+8 People’s Demands” raised during recent nationwide demonstrations.

According to the resolution, the DPR ends housing allowances for all DPR members effective August 31; suspends all overseas working visits starting September 1, except for attending official state ceremonies; cuts allowances related to electricity, mobile phones, "intensive communication," and transportation.

The resolution further stipulates that political party financial support for suspended legislators will be revoked. Such cases will be subject to joint investigations by the DPR’s Ethics Committee and the relevant party’s ethics council. In addition, the DPR pledged to enhance transparency and expand public participation in legislative and policy-making processes.

DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad told the press that the resolutions reflect the parliament's commitment to a "total institutional evaluation". He stressed that the measures signal both reform and stronger accountability in the legislature./.

Analysts said this can be a hint of growing financial pressures faced by Singaporeans amid rising prices.
