Vientiane (VNA) - Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane has held an online meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong to discuss measures to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
At the meeting on February 10, the two FMs expressed their delight to exchange ideas to strengthen and deepen bilateral relations.
Both sides acknowledged the long-standing friendship and successful cooperation between Laos and Australia over the past 73 years, since the establishment of diplomatic relations, which have led to positive development outcomes. This includes the official visit to Australia by Lao Prime Minister Sonxay Siphandone, and the co-chairing of the ASEAN-Australia Summit in 2024 to mark the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Australia relations. The two countries also upgraded their bilateral ties to a comprehensive partnership, they noted.
They agreed to further enhance cooperation in key areas outlined in the Comprehensive Partnership Action Plan, including human resources development, trade and investment, climate change mitigation, sustainable energy development, security, law enforcement, and other important areas./.
