Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - Malaysia reaffirmed its determination to accelerate the adoption of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology and integrate more deeply into the regional drone industry at the opening of DronTech Asia 2025.

Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Liew Chin Tong called for local enterprises' more participation in the drone technology industry, adding local players should adopt the drone technology in practical applications to generate real use cases that can drive the growth of the industry.

As the drone technology has developed very rapidly, Malaysia needs to develop a full range of capabilities, with the defence and security sector being an important vertical in the drone technology, and healthcare and agriculture being key areas to work on.

Malaysia has already laid out multiple mechanisms to support the drone technology, most notably the Malaysian Drone Technology Action Plan 2022–2030 (MDTAP30). The plan focuses on key tasks such as unmanned air traffic system management (UTM), establishment of registration databases, and expansion of UAV applications in strategic industries.

According to market research firm IMARC Group, Malaysia’s UAV market was valued at 129.41 million USD in 2024 and is projected to grow to 315.54 million USD by 2033, driven by rising demand in agriculture and construction.

DronTech Asia 2025, held from September 30 to October 2, involved the participation of 75 companies from 10 countries as well as leading innovators and industry players./.
