RoK media highlights Party Chief To Lam’s state visit

The Republic of Korea (RoK)’s media continued to provide extensive coverage on August 12 of the State visit to the country by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, and a high-level Vietnamese delegation from August 10-13.

Hanoi (VNA) – The Republic of Korea (RoK)’s media continued to provide extensive coverage on August 12 of the State visit to the country by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee To Lam, his spouse Ngo Phuong Ly, and a high-level Vietnamese delegation from August 10-13.

According to the Yonhap News Agency, this is the first State visit by a foreign leader to the RoK since President Lee Jae Myung took office in June. As part of the visit, General Secretary To Lam visited Yonsei University and delivered a policy speech. On this occasion, Yonsei University President Yoon Dong-sup awarded him an honorary doctorate.

The Korea Herald reported prominently on agreements in the field of data centres between Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) and Korea Investment Real Asset (KIRA) and LG CNS - a Korean information technology solutions provider under LG Group. The cooperation includes potential joint investment in a data centre in Vietnam with an initial capacity of 20-30 MW, as well as joint operation and provision of data centre services in the Vietnamese market. The article also highlighted the Vietnamese Government’s priority on accelerating digital transformation and developing the digital economy.

The Korea Herald further reported that Vietnam and the RoK have pledged to enhance cooperation in high-tech industries, supply chains and energy. At the Vietnam–Korea Economic Forum, held on August 12, both sides committed to implementing effective measures to achieve the goal of 150 billion USD in bilateral trade by 2030.

In addition, Korean outlets covered the “Korea-Vietnam Cultural Industry Cooperation Roundtable”, co-chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung and his Korean counterpart Chae Hwi Young. The event saw officials, experts and businesses from both countries exchange experiences, discuss cooperation needs and propose policies to support enterprises./.
