Bangkok (VNA) – Thailand has officially introduced its plans for the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 33) and the 13th ASEAN Para Games at a broadcaster meeting and press briefing held in Bangkok on September 8.
The host country announced that SEA Games 33 will take place from December 9 - 20 in Bangkok and the provinces of Chonburi and Songkhla. Athletes from all 11 member states of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF) – Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam – will compete in 54 sports with 574 medal events.
Following that, ASEAN Para Games 13 will be held in Nakhon Ratchasima from January 20 - 26, 2026, featuring competitions in 19 sports.
Thailand also revealed the official logos, mascots, and sport-specific icons for the two regional events.
The mascot collection, named “The Sans”, features seven colorful characters representing warmth, energy, and hospitality of Thai people. Their designs combine traditional Thai motifs with modern cartoon aesthetics, showcasing the vibrancy of the Games and the diversity of Southeast Asian nations.
The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the Government Public Relations Department (PRD) have been designated as Host Broadcasters for SEA Games 33. They will jointly produce and provide the International Television Signal (ITS), ensuring high-quality, unbiased live coverage of all competitions. This feed will be distributed to Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) across Southeast Asia and worldwide audiences.
The Host Broadcasters will also supply comprehensive facilities and services for RHBs, enabling them to access and enhance coverage for their own markets. All productions will follow global broadcasting standards of neutrality and professionalism.
During the two-day meeting, participants also discussed broadcasting rights, intellectual property, copyright, legal frameworks, and guidelines for sharing media content, video clips, and social media use./.
