Hanoi (VNA) – Cambodia and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening and expanding bilateral cooperation across multiple areas.
The reaffirmation was made during a meeting on October 28 between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Cambodian News Agency (AKP) reported.
Overchuk underlined that Cambodia is a long-standing friend of Russia, and the two countries have maintained traditional relations for decades. He also reaffirmed Russia’s wish to further strengthen and broaden bilateral cooperation, particularly in priority areas such as trade, economy, raw materials for textiles, vaccine production, agriculture, energy security, transport, and logistics.
In response, PM Hun Manet agreed with the Russian Deputy PM’s remarks on the long-standing friendship and traditional relations between Cambodia and Russia.
He underlined that 2026 will mark the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and affirmed Cambodia’s readiness to continue working with Russia to further enhance friendship and cooperation.
He also expressed sincere appreciation to Russia for its past support and assistance to Cambodia.
The Cambodian leader welcomed Russia’s intention to expand cooperation in the above-mentioned areas and encouraged the Russian side to dispatch a delegation of experts from relevant sectors to visit Cambodia to discuss and establish direct cooperation with Cambodian ministries, institutions, and the private sector to achieve concrete outcomes./.
