Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on September 22 requested disaster response agencies to go on full alert and mobilise all forces as Super Typhoon Ragasa threatened the north of the country.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Ragasa, which packed winds of 215 kph and gusts of up to 295 kph, has passed over Babuyan Island, and is heading toward Calayan Island (both in Babuyan Islands).
The typhoon’s impact may produce waves over 3 metres high. Northern Cagayan is experiencing heavy rain, strong winds, high waves, and risks of flash floods and landslides.
The Babuyan Islands remain under a high-level storm warning signal, with residents advised to stay away from coastal areas and riverbanks.
The government has suspended work and classes across Metro Manila and large parts of Luzon as outer rainbands began lashing the region, prompting warnings of power outages, landslides, floods, and dangerous seas.
Airlines have cancelled about 20 domestic flights, mostly serving Luzon's main hubs, while sea ports have suspended ferry services./.
