Bangkok (VNA) - The Thai Cabinet on October 14 approved a 455.96-million-THB (around 14 million USD) budget for hosting the 33rd SEA Games in December this year and the 13th ASEAN Para Games in January next year.
Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said the allocation formed part of a 720.31-million-THB package approved by the government to support the country’s tourism and sports industries.
The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has also been tasked with seeking sponsorships from the private sector to cover additional expenses.
SEA Games 33 will take place from December 9 to 20 across three host areas: Bangkok and its metropolitan region, Chonburi, and Songkhla.
Thailand has set goals of winning 252 gold medals at the SEA Games and 233 golds at the Para Games.
The two events are expected to generate an estimated 5.28 billion THB in economic value while enhancing Thailand’s image as a regional leader in sports and tourism within the ASEAN community.
On the same day, the Cabinet also approved a 264.3-million-THB budget for organising world-class marathon events under the title “Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok” for a three-year period from 2025 to 2027./.
