Geneva (VNA) – The grand celebration marking Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 in Hanoi drew strong attention from Swiss media, with major outlets such as SwissInfo, BlueNews, and Linth-Zeitung running articles highlighting the Southeast Asian country’s proud achievements over the past eight decades.

An article published on SwissInfo wrote that the parade celebrating Vietnam’s 80th National Day was not only a display of military strength but also a heroic testament to the nation’s journey of national construction and defence through countless challenges. The article also noted that among the parade formations were military vehicles and artillery units of the Vietnam People’s Army.

It highlighted Party General Secretary To Lam’s opening speech to hundreds of thousands of participants at the event, in which the top Vietnamese leader emphasised that Vietnam had overcome immense hardships to transform from a colony into an independent and unified nation, now advancing confidently toward modernisation, intensive and extensive integration, with its increasing stature and reputation in the international arena.

Meanwhile, in its article, Linth-Zeintung mentioned Ba Dinh Square, the historic site where President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence to found the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945.

Ahead of the grand celebration, Hanoi was adorned with countless Vietnamese flags. For Vietnam, a nation expanding its partnerships, the occasion was an opportunity to honour its nation-building journey, marked by a growth of over 7% in 2024 - one of the highest rates in the region.

The celebration was attended by numerous international guests, including Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen, and Zhao Leji, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of China. In addition, Russia, China, Laos, and Cambodia sent their delegations to join the national parade of Vietnam./.
