Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – The second special meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) concluded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 23, with both sides adopting and signing the meeting minutes and a joint statement reaffirming their strong commitment to fully and effectively implementing these key documents.

In a press release following the GBC, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Tea Seiha said both sides agreed on a number of key mechanisms designed to de-escalate tensions through the establishment of the initial action plan on the removal of heavy and destructive weapons back to their respective normal military installations. This plan will be implemented under the observation and verification of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). Importantly, the Terms of Reference (TOR) for the establishment of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) was officially signed by the GBC Co-chairs on October 23.

Meanwhile, Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs Sihasak Phuangketkeow has expressed his confidence that Thailand and Cambodia will reach and sign an accord to resolve ongoing border conflicts during the ASEAN Summit this week. The signing of the declaration on Thai–Cambodian relations between the two prime ministers will take place on October 25. The ceremony will be witnessed by US President Donald Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and other ASEAN leaders./.
