Vietnamese wins gold medals in taekwondo

Vietnamese taekwondo martial artists on December 10 won two more gold medals for the Vietnamese taekwondo team at the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games being held in Laos.
Vietnamese taekwondo martial artists on December 10 won two more gold medals forthe Vietnamese taekwondo team at the 25th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games being heldin Laos.

The two gold medalists are Luong Minh Dat and Nguyen TrongCuong. Dat defeated Avenido Marlon from the Philippines in the final match of80-kg division after overcoming two rivals from Malaysia and Myanmar .Meanwhile, Cuong knocked down So Naro from Cambodia in the final match of 87-kgdivision.

With the two additional gold medals, the Vietnamese taekwondoteam reached their target of four gold medals at this year’s Sea Games.

On the same day, Nguyen Thi Duong and Ha Thi Nguyen won two silvermedals for Vietnam in the women’s taekwondo competitions.

This is thefirst time that taekwondo has been included in the SEA Games. This type ofmartial art has been Vietnam ’s strong point at many international sportingcompetitions.

In addition to taekwondo, Vietnam won a gold medal inkarate on December 10.

Vietnam sent 394 athletes to the Games to competein 24 of 25 events. The athletes are expected to take home 70 gold medals andcome third in the medals tally.

At the SEA Games 2007 in Thailand,Vietnam came third with a total of 64 gold medals./.

ASEAN city leaders explore Hanoi’s heritage sites

At the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, delegates visited the Doan Mon Gate and learnt about the formation and development of the ancient capital through different historical periods at display spaces. The festival featured more than 20 booths offering traditional Vietnamese dishes, including "pho" and spring rolls, alongside activities promoting Ao Dai (Vietnamese traditonal long dress). One of the highlights was the presentation of complimentary Ao Dai to Czech residents and international visitors.
