Buenos Aires (VNA) – Vietnam’s National Day on September 2 has inspired many anti-colonial movements across different continents, especially in North Africa, said Poldi Sosa Schmidt, Chairwoman of the Argentina-Vietnam Culture Institute (ICAV), in an interview with the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Buenos Aires.
She affirmed that President Ho Chi Minh was one of the greatest figures of the 20th century, who overcame numerous hardships to embark on the journey to save the nation. He was not only the founder of the Communist Party of Vietnam but also the organiser and leader of the protracted resistance war against French colonialism, which led to the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) on September 2, 1945 – a milestone of great significance not only for the nation but also for the world.
The ICAV chairperson stressed that Vietnam not only defeated a colonial empire but also triumphed over another major power, the US. Such achievements, she noted, were possible thanks to the Vietnamese people’s steadfast patriotism and profound spirit of independence.
Looking back on nearly four decades of Doi Moi (Renewal), Schmidt recalled her first visit to Vietnam during a difficult period and expressed admiration for the country’s remarkable transformation. She highlighted the significant improvements in people’s living standards, transport, education, and international integration. Today, she said, Vietnam is truly dynamic and modern while maintaining its skillful approach in geopolitical affairs.
According to her, ICAV has organised various activities to promote exchanges between Vietnam and Argentina. September 2, she stressed, is not only Vietnam’s National Day but also a symbol of courage and a bridge of bilateral friendship./.
