Hanoi (VNA) - Delegates at Centre 5 of the 14th National Trade Union Congress on June 3 discussed how the “Good work, higher productivity, better income” movement could become a driver of double-digit economic growth. They identified innovation, stronger digital skills and linking productivity with workers’ actual incomes as key priorities.
Innovation and creativity in the new era
Opening the discussion, Thai Thu Xuong, Standing Vice President of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour, said patriotic emulation movements had long helped foster workers’ responsibility, determination, dedication and creativity.
Experience has shown that where such movements are practical and effective, productivity improves, technical initiatives flourish, labour relations become more harmonious and businesses develop more sustainably. They also strengthen workers’ attachment to trade unions, enterprises and national development.
The 14th Congress takes place as the Party, people and entire political system seek to achieve rapid and sustainable development, including double-digit economic growth, while accelerating science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation in line with Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.
Rapid technological and digital advances are transforming work, production and social management, requiring a modern workforce with professional expertise, vocational and digital skills, industrial discipline and the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.
“Emulation in the new period must focus on science and technology, digital transformation and innovation,” Thai Thu Xuong, Standing Vice President of the Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour stressed. It should directly contribute to sustainable employment, higher incomes and better working conditions, while creating an environment where workers can contribute, be recognised and grow alongside enterprises.
The Viet Nam General Confederation of Labour has therefore identified the “Good Work, Higher Productivity, Better Income” movement for 2026-2031 as a key, ongoing task of the trade union system.
Training must deliver tangible value
Cao Minh Hoa, Chairman of the Trade Union and Technical Director of TH Milk JSC, said Nghe An provincial labour unions had organised more than 86 skills competitions and recognised 12,470 initiatives and solutions during the previous term, generating benefits worth over 612 billion VND (2.8 million USD).
He called for stronger communication on the importance of vocational training and lifelong learning, as well as closer co-operation between trade unions and businesses to provide practical training, particularly digital skills for production transformation.
Responding to a question from Dr Nguyen Ngoc An, President of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, on how to measure post-training results and persuade businesses to invest, Hoa said the answer was to demonstrate tangible outcomes.
Thousands of billions in value from grassroots initiatives
Nguyen Thi Tuyet, Vice President of the Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labour, said the province has nearly 2,300 grassroots trade unions and more than 750,000 members working across 43 industrial parks and clusters, representing a major resource for double-digit growth.
Trade unions at all levels have aligned emulation campaigns with production and business needs, with transparent rewards targeting frontline workers.
More than 563,000 ideas and initiatives have been recorded, while 119,898 technical improvements and production solutions have been applied, generating over 1.068 trillion VND (over 39 million USD) in benefits for businesses.
These results show that when trade unions work alongside businesses, unleash workers’ creativity and improve their wellbeing, breakthrough economic growth is within reach.
